Charitable Outreach

Giving Back to the Community
Investing in your community is a great way to give back to those who have helped support our business. Volunteer groups and non-profit organizations do so much to help the communities that all of us are a part of. There are always those who are less fortunate than we are and will appreciate our help. We give what we can regularly to the charities that make a difference to our local and national community.

ALS Association DC/MD/VA Chapter
www.alsinfo.org

ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, attacks and kills the nerve cells which control muscle movement (motor neurons). Over time, people with Lou Gehrig’s Disease lose the ability to move, to speak, to swallow and finally to breathe. Patients in the later stages of Lou Gehrig’s Disease are completely paralyzed; yet their minds are generally not impaired and often remains sharp despite the progressive degenerating condition of the body.

Over 5,000 people in the U.S. are newly diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease each year (about 15 new cases a day), about the same rate as multiple sclerosis. As many as 30,000 Americans have Lou Gehrig’s Disease at any given time and the disease most often strikes between the ages of 40 and 70. Lou Gehrig’s Disease occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. Recent studies have shown that military veterans are more likely to develop Lou Gehrig’s Disease, although the reasons for this are not yet known. The ALS Association has been tirelessly advocating for research funding through the Department of Defense as this research will yield important clues and data about ALS that will benefit all people suffering from the disease.

Foster Remodeling Solutions, Inc. is pleased to announce we will donate $25.00 to the ALS Association for everyone who attends our Home Solutions Series Open House.

This foundation was chosen to help out our local Chapter and because a member of our “Foster Family”, Jeff Paulus, lives with this affliction.

Partners Seeking a Cure
www.pscpartners.org

PSC Partners Seeking a Cure is a foundation that endeavors to find a cure for Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. Today, this liver disease has no specific treatment. PSC is affecting the lives of too many people including young children, college students, mothers, fathers, and grandparents. With no treatment or cure, people with this disease are suffering and dying while awaiting the uncertainty of a transplant. Little is known about this disease and its course is hard to predict. What isn’t hard to predict is the heartbreak the next family will experience when PSC strikes them. Patients and caregivers need support and information. We desperately need research for treatment and a cure for PSC now.

Foster Remodeling Solutions recently held an Open House event and donated money for everyone who attended this seminar. This resulted in a $600.00 donation to PSC.

This foundation was chosen because members of our "Foster Family", Ken and Patty Shepherd, have a son with this disease.

FATE - Foundation for Applied Technical Education, Inc.
www.fatefacts.org

Foster Remodeling Solutions, Inc. supports the Foundation for Applied Technical Education, Inc. David Foster currently serves on the Board of Directors of FATE.

FATE Program
In 1970, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) called on its business and professional community for assistance in providing a unique, comprehensive educational program that would develop “in demand” vocational skills for participating high school students. In addition, an entrepreneurial component was integrated to better prepare students for a successful transition into the workplace. The result was the formation of a partnership in 1971 known as the Fairfax County Vocational Education Foundation, Inc. (FAXVO). In 1991, the name was amended to the Foundation for Applied Technical Education, Inc. (FATE).

Today, the Foundation consists of representatives from a wide range of business and professional organizations dedicated to providing resources, support, and career opportunities to students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The FATE-sponsored CTE instructional programs facilitate active student learning through the use of contextual teaching whereby students discover meaningful relationships between abstract ideas and practical applications in the context of the real world. Furthermore, student risk-taking in collaborative learning environments and participation in work-based learning are reinforced.

Students are encouraged to become thoughtful, self-directed, life-long learners with a strong commitment to becoming participative members of society and the workforce.

Robinson Rams

At Foster Remodeling Solutions, Inc., we feel it is important to encourage the youth of the future.
The leaders of tomorrow are being shaped and molded in the here and now. The lessons we teach the youth of today will be with them for the rest of their lives, and there is no better place to teach children about the world than on the field of play. Competition teaches more than just how to win and lose, it teaches a person how to win with class and at the same time be gracious in defeat. It promotes respect for your opponent and teammates, i.e. your co-workers or partners and encourages teamwork and a willingness to work with others towards a common goal. All of these traits can be beneficial in every aspect of life, not just in the sporting arena.
