This 1990’s Reston home was updated to bring it in to the 21st Century. The original home featured a separate Dining Room enclosed with French doors along with a small walk-in pantry and kitchen desk area. The floor plan was not open and did not allow for easy entertaining. In addition, the kitchen was dated with soffits, early 90’s contemporary cabinets along with Corian countertops. We worked with the clients to create an open floor plan by removing interior load bearing walls and soffits to create a more open plan. Transitional style cabinets were furnished along with granite countertops to update the look. The walk-in pantry was converted to a banquet for casual dining and a large prep island was designed to help with the work flow for the space. A separate beverage area was created between the kitchen and dining room to improve the traffic flow. Recessed lighting, under cabinet lighting and decorative pendant lights were installed to improve the functionality of the space. Porcelain tile was installed on the backsplash for easy clean-up and the hardwood floors on the entire first floor were sanded and refinished to complete the update.
